To be held on Homecoming Weekend (Saturday, October 9, 2021), Binghamton University will launch the inaugural Wenzel Memorial 5k in honor of Gregg Wenzel ’91. The event will consist of a 5k run/walk on and around campus. It is open to all students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community.
Wenzel was a triathlete and former student-athlete at Binghamton who competed on the men’s varsity swimming and diving team. He was killed in a car accident in July 2003 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he was working as a CIA directorate of operations.
Race check-in and on-site registration will take place in front of the West Gym at the Gregg Wenzel Memorial Statue on Bearcat Blvd. Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers in separate age categories. Photos and results will be posted after the event.
Pre-registration is recommended. Day of race check-in and registration will be allowed starting at 6:45 a.m. (end at 7:45 a.m.), with the race beginning at 8 a.m. Individual participant race fees are $10.00 for students and $20.00 for all others. The fee includes the race and t-shirt through Sunday, September 26, 2021. Beginning Monday, September 27, registration fee covers race only. Entrants must be 13 years or older.
